Man lynched over chickens theft in Mundeku

A 22 yearnold man was on Thursday lynched by an irate mob in Emakhatsa “A” Villag,Mundeku in Khwisero Kakamega County.

The man was killed after he was caught stealing chickens from a homestead.

According to a police report filed at Mundeku Police Post yesterday,the incident was reported by Daniel Kochwa, a resident of the village.

Kochwa told police that at around noon on Thursday, March 5, 2026, he was heading to his house when he spotted a man leaving his poultry house carrying a sack.

He raised an alarm, attracting members of the public who pursued and caught up with the suspect.

The suspect was then subjected to mob injustice by the angry residents.

Police officers from Khwisero Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and established that the victim, identified as Nathan Esma Akolo, aged 22, had been lynched by the mob.

His body was found lying beside the road within Emakhatsa “A” Village.

Police recovered seven chickens packed in a carrier sack beside the deceased.

The body was moved to Butere Level 5 Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
