Man on the Run Over Alleged Multi-Million Shilling ‘Stealing by Servant’ Spree

The public and the business community have been issued with a stern warning regarding a middle aged man of Asian origin allegedly involved in a series of “stealing by servant” incidents across the region.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Hasan Jan Mohammed, better known by the alias “Butch,” is accused of gaining the trust of employers before orchestrating the theft of millions of shillings.

This is not the suspect’s first brush with the law.

In 2023, Jan Mohammed was arraigned before a Kiambu Law Court, charged with stealing Sh6 million from a shop where he was employed.

While he denied the charges at the time, the matter remains active and pending before the court.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, fresh allegations suggest that the suspect has continued to target unsuspecting employers, leading to an outcry from the local business community.

Aggrieved employers, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed frustration over what they initially perceived as a “shield” protecting the suspect.

Several victims claimed that Jan Mohammed frequently sought refuge and patronage at the Saaj, a Hindi mosque in Hindi, where he was allegedly protected from facing the full force of the law.

“I have been a victim of this man. He portrays himself as a God-fearing, hardworking person, but once he is in the system, he hatches a plan to steal,” said one distraught former employer.

“For a long time, we felt intimidated because we were told there was nowhere he could be taken.”

Another victim echoed these sentiments, noting that the suspect’s behavior has become “rampant” and that public exposure is the only way to prevent further businesses from collapsing under his watch.

In a surprising turn of events, an insider at the Saaj mosque has broken the silence, distancing the institution from the suspect’s actions.

Speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, the source clarified that the mosque is no longer standing by Jan Mohammed.

According to the insider, the institution initially assisted the suspect under the impression of his innocence, but they have since discovered a deep-seated pattern of behavior.

The source revealed that the Saaj had previously helped him secure a bond but later withdrew it after discovering his “fondness for stealing.

The source described the man as a “kleptomaniac” and stated he is no longer considered a “genuine person” by the mosque’s leadership.

The mosque has reportedly communicated to aggrieved parties, encouraging them to report Jan Mohammed to the relevant authorities.

“We solve our matters internally and usually do not wish to make matters public to the press,” the source added.

“However, the matter is known. We have let him loose to fend for himself in the legal system.”

As the 2023 case continues in Kiambu, members of the public are urged to conduct thorough background checks before hiring. Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s current whereabouts or new fraudulent activities is encouraged to report to the nearest police station.
