Manager to serve two years jail term for stealing Sh2 Million rent

By Our Reporter,Nairobi.

An assistant manager who was in charge of some apartments in Karen, Rongai and Kitengela has been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for stealing Sh2 million meant for rent.

James Peter Muthoga was found guilty and convicted by Nairobi principal magistrate Caroline Njagi who sentenced him to a period of two years in jail without an option of fine.

While delivering the sentence, the magistrate said that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt that Muthoga abused the trust given to him by his employer and went ahead to steal the money amounting to Sh 2,067, 740 from Tweya Investment Limited, the company that had employed him.

The court heard that the accused person committed the offence on diverse dates between June 6, 2018, and May 26, 2022, at Karen Triangle road within Nairobi County.

Muthoga was found guilty for stealing the money which came into his possession by virtue of his employment.

The prosecution had told the court that Muthoga received the amount after the audit report conducted by an expert showed the money was missing.

The court heard that Muthoga was collecting the money from tenants but he was not remitting the money to the owner.

He went underground when he was asked by the owner but later presented himself to the police at Karen police station.

In his defence Muthoga denied stealing the money saying that there was no agreement showing he was employed to be collecting rent from tenants.
