A man who had been reported missing for some days has been found dead in a pit latrine in Awendo, Migori County.
According to police in Awendo,the incident was brought to their attention by North Sakwa Location Chief, Vincent Nyamburi.
He reported that a lifeless body had been spotted inside an open pit latrine in Nyakuru Village.
Police officers, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) alongside officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Awendo, visited the scene and upon inspection, they confirmed the body to be that of John Owuor Ogutu, aged 39.
His body was retrieved from the pit latrine by members of the public at the homestead of one Paul Ouma Onyango on March 27.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was last seen on March 23, 2026, at around 2:00 p.m., reportedly in an intoxicated state.
It is suspected that he may have accidentally fallen into the pit latrine later that night.
The body, which was found in a partially decomposed state, has since been moved to Rosewood Hospital Mortuary in Rongo, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
