Mob justice incident reported in Nyando during night funeral vigil

One person was seriously injured following a mob justice incident at a night vigil in Onera Village, Nyando Sub-County, on the night of February 6.

According to a report recorded at Awasi Police at 6:30 a.m today, the incident was reported via mobile phone by Wang’anga Sub-Location Assistant Chief, Charles Ouko.

He stated that a group of about five armed youths invaded mourners who were attending a night vigil in the village.

The mourners resisted the attack, forcing the suspects to flee.

However, one of the alleged attackers, identified as Evans Ochieng, aged 19 years old and a resident of Ayucha Sub-Location, was cornered by the crowd.

The suspect was subjected to mob justice and sustained injuries to the head, lower chin, neck, and legs.

Police officers, accompanied by the area Assistant Chief, rushed to the scene and rescued the injured suspect before transporting him to Port Florence Private Hospital.

Ochieng is currently admitted at the facility and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police have opened investigations into the incident, with the case pending under investigation (P.U.I), and Awasi Police Station handling the matter.

Authorities have once again cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging them to report criminal activity to law enforcement agencies.
