Former Narok North Member of Parliament Richard Moitalel ole Kenta has been appointed the new Secretary General of the Jubilee Party.
His appointment marks a critical moment for the former ruling party as it seeks political renewal ahead of the high stakes 2027 General Election.
Ole Kenta replaces Jeremiah Kioni in the party led by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, a leadership change widely viewed as part of Jubilee’s broader reorganisation as it positions itself to support former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i in a possible presidential contest against incumbent President William Ruto.
Ole Kenta was born on March 12, 1962.
He is a seasoned politician and legal professional with decades of experience in public service, governance, and party politics.
Jubilee party SG entered elective politics in 2013 when he won the Narok North parliamentary seat on a The National Alliance (TNA) ticket.
In 2017, he successfully defended the seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, highlighting his political adaptability and strong grassroots appeal.
During the 2022 general election, ole Kenta contested the Narok gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket but lost to current Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Despite the loss, the race further cemented his profile as a key political figure within the Maasai community and the wider Rift Valley region.
Academically, ole Kenta holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
He studied at Eor Enkitok Primary School, Kilgoris Secondary School and Kijabe High School, where he later served as the school member of the Board of Management (BOM).
Beyond elective politics, he has held several leadership and governance roles, including Chairman of Kenya Wine Agencies Limited, board director at the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), Chairman of the Hotels and Restaurants Tribunal, and Board of Management member at Narok Teachers Training College.
He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and the founder of Kenta Moitalel & Co. Advocates.
During his time in the National Assembly, ole Kenta served on key committees such as the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee and the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, where he gained firsthand experience in legislative oversight and policy development.
Ole Kenta is known for his firm stance on constitutionalism, often stating that political power must be exercised within the rule of law.
He has also been vocal on inclusivity, arguing that no community should feel excluded from national leadership.
On environmental matters, he has warned that reckless exploitation of natural resources risks undermining future generations.
As Jubilee’s new Secretary General, ole Kenta faces the task of rebuilding party structures, restoring internal cohesion and coordinating strategy as the party prepares for the 2027 General Election.
His supporters as they confided to Daily News Kenya-International believe his legal expertise, parliamentary experience and long record in public service position him well to steer Jubilee through a challenging but crucial transition.
