Nairobi City County Assembly Speaker Ken Ngondi has outlined his expectations for Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in 2026, urging them to build on their strong legislative performance recorded in 2025 by prioritising development delivery, legislative completion, and political stability.
The Speaker who commended MCAs for their exemplary work in passing critical bills and motions in 2025, noting that the momentum must now shift towards tangible impact at the ward level.
Ngondi said that a key priority for 2026 will be ensuring the completion of all planned and ongoing development projects across Nairobi’s wards.
He urged MCAs to intensify oversight of the county executive to guarantee that allocated funds translate into visible projects that directly benefit residents.
“The people of Nairobi expect results. This is the year for delivery. Every ward must see the completion of projects that were planned and funded,” the Speaker said.
He also called on MCAs to fast track the passage of pending bills and amendment acts that remain before the House, stressing that legislative gaps must be addressed to strengthen governance and service delivery ahead of the final financial year of the current administration.
According to Ngondi, 2026 presents a critical window for the Assembly to consolidate its legislative agenda, noting that it is the last full working year before the final financial year leading into the 2027 General Election.
The Speaker further cautioned MCAs against engaging in political confrontations and unnecessary divisions, urging them to remain focused on their constitutional mandate rather than early electioneering.
“This is not the time for political fights. The people elected us to work. Let us remain disciplined, united, and focused on service delivery,” he said.
Ngondi emphasized that maintaining harmony within the Assembly will be essential in safeguarding institutional stability and ensuring that legislative and development priorities are not derailed by political interests.
He reaffirmed his commitment to providing firm and fair leadership in 2026, pledging to uphold order, inclusivity, and accountability as the Assembly works to conclude its term with a strong record of delivery.
“As we approach the final stretch before 2027, history will judge this Assembly not by politics, but by what we delivered for the people of Nairobi,” the Speaker said.
