Residents of Nyamanga Village in Nyatike, Migori County, are grappling with shock after nine cows belonging to a local farmer were brutally injured in an overnight attack whose motive remains unclear.
The incident was reported at Karungu Police Station on Sunday evening by Michael Bungu, a resident of the area.
According to the report, Bungu discovered the injuries at around 8:00 a.m. after waking up, only to find that all his nine cows had their tails seriously cut on the upper side.
Bungu suspects one of his neighbours, alleging that the individual had previously issued threats to harm the animals.
However, police say the suspect is currently at large and the exact motive behind the attack has not yet been established.
Veterinary officers were immediately called to the homestead and treated the injured animals, averting further suffering.
Police officers visited the scene, documented the incident, and launched investigations.
Officers have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the suspect.
