A political storm is brewing at the Nairobi City County Assembly after reports emerged of a scheme to remove Majority Leader Peter Imwatok and Majority Whip Moses Ogeto over their alleged links to the anti-broadbased faction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
According to sources familiar with the developments, the process to initiate their removal could begin at any moment, signaling escalating tensions within the ruling party ranks at City Hall.
Imwatok, who serves as Makongeni MCA and is eyeing the Teso South MP seat, is reportedly facing mounting pressure not only within the assembly but also from sections of his constituency.
Sources close to him indicate that his popularity on the ground has declined following the demolition of houses in Makongeni to pave the way for the government’s affordable housing project.
Some residents allegedly felt abandoned during the controversial exercise.
Ogeto, the Kilimani MCA and Dagoretti North MP aspirant, is also said to be caught in the widening internal party rift, with political undercurrents threatening his position as Majority Whip.
Efforts to confirm the impending changes from official party structures were still underway by press time.
