Police in Nairobi have arrested two suspected members of a notorious phone theft syndicate and recovered a massive haul of stolen electronic devices in Kawangware.

According to a report filed at Muthangari Police Station, officers acting on intelligence launched a targeted operation that led to the arrest of a 20 year old suspect, Teddy Anyanga, in Kawangware 46.

He was apprehended for allegedly stealing a mobile phone within the area.

Upon interrogation, the suspect reportedly led officers to Riruta’s Sam West area, where he had sold the stolen phone.

This development led to the arrest of a second suspect, Juma Knoly Omollo, aged approximately 23 years.

Police conducted a search at Omollo’s residence, where they uncovered what authorities believe to be a cartel linked to a wider phone theft and resale network.

The items recovered and secured as exhibits include eight laptops, four iPads, and a staggering 227 mobile phones of various brands.

The recovered phones include 149 iPhones, 39 Samsung devices, 13 Redmi phones, and smaller quantities from brands such as Oppo, Vivo, Tecno, Nokia, Infinix, Itel, Google, Huawei, Honor, and others.

Officers also seized 16 dismantled phones, 14 phone covers, a 55-inch TCL television, a 6kg gas cylinder, and an LG wireless soundbar.

Investigators believe the suspects may be part of a larger syndicate involved in the theft, refurbishment, and resale of stolen electronics within Nairobi and its environs.

The recovery of dismantled devices further suggests possible involvement in parts harvesting and illegal device reassembly.

All recovered items have been secured as exhibits, and the suspects remain in police custody pending formal charges in court.

Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to trace additional accomplices and identify victims of the theft ring.
