A police officer was injured in the early hours of today morning after being stabbed by an armed suspect during a security response at Brigadier Market in Tongaren,Bungoma county.
According to a police report recorded at Brigadier Police Station in the afternoon,the incident was reported by a private security guard who alerted officers about a man armed with a knife threatening to kill people on sight at Brigadier Market.

Upon arrival, the suspect identified as Collins Mukhebi, a 30 year old man from Narati Village was allegedly charged at Daniel Omollo and stabbed him on the left side of the chest under the armpit using a knife.
With the assistance of members of the public, police managed to subdue and disarm the suspect.
During the confrontation, the suspect also sustained injuries after an agitated crowd attempted to lynch him.
Both the injured officer and the suspect were rushed to Brigadier Makutano Health Centre, where they received treatment and were later discharged in fair condition.
The suspect has since been placed in police custody, while the knife used in the attack was recovered and secured as an exhibit.
