Security agencies in Kwale County have arrested 19 suspected members of a notorious criminal gang popularly known as Panga Boys following a targeted overnight operation in Matuga SubCounty.

According to a police report filed at Kwale Police Station at 1.20am today the operation was conducted in Matuga–Tiwi and surrounding areas as part of intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating along the South Coast.

The multi team operation focused on identified crime hotspots including Mwachema, Kirudi, Tiwi Sokoni, Mabriber, Makanyakulo and Maweni areas along the beach line and its environs.

Officers successfully smoked out and arrested the 19 suspects during coordinated swoops in the early hours of Friday.

Police said the suspects are currently being held in lawful custody pending profiling and further investigations, after which they will be arraigned in court.

Police noted that the operation is ongoing, with more arrests expected as security teams continue to pursue gang members believed to be involved in violent crimes and intimidation of residents in the region.

The crackdown comes amid renewed concern from local communities over gang related activities, with police assuring residents of sustained operations to restore law and order in Matuga and neighboring areas.
