A police officer who indicated to his colleagues that he’s attached to Mama Ida Odinga was on Friday night arrested following a shooting incident at Ahero Bus Stage in Nyando, Kisumu County.
According to a follow up report filed at Ahero Police Station, the arrest followed a coordinated operation between officers from Ahero and Awasi police stations.
It was after intelligence led them to a motor vehicle suspected to have been involved in the incident.
The vehicle,was spotted and pursued towards Muhoroni.
Upon reaching Muhoroni town, officers flagged down the driver, who surrendered without resistance.
The suspect was arrested and searched, leading to the recovery of a Ceska pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.
Further interrogation revealed that the suspect was a Corporal stationed at Olkalau Police Station in Nyandarua County and currently attached to Mama Ida Odinga.
Police indicated that the officer was travelling to Nairobi at the time of his arrest.
The suspect, together with the firearm and the motor vehicle, was escorted back to Ahero Police Station, where he was searched again and placed in custody.
His firearm has been retained as an exhibit, while the vehicle has been detained at the station yard.
Detectives from DCI Nyando have taken over the case as investigations into the shooting incident continue.
Police have not yet disclosed details on the motive behind the shooting or whether any injuries were reported at the Ahero Bus Stage.
