By Our Correspondent, Makindu.
A police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters in Nairobi has been re-arrested in connection with an alleged attempted abduction incident in Makindu, Makueni County.
According to a report filed at Kiunduani Police Station yesterday, officers from Makindu Police Station on Tuesday at around 6:44 p.m., proceeded to Mtito Andei Police Station where they re-arrested Constable Nelson Kasera Onyango.
The re-arrest follows earlier proceedings in which the officer had been charged with extortion, alongside a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer.
Police now say the officer will face an additional charge of attempted abduction after a member of the public reported being targeted in a violent incident.
The complainant alleged that the suspect, while using motor vehicle registration number KCM 045C, a Toyota Vanguard, and in the company of other individuals, chased him while he was riding a motorcycle.
During the pursuit, the complainant was reportedly knocked down, after which the suspects allegedly attempted to force him into the vehicle.
The attempted abduction was thwarted when members of the public intervened and rescued the complainant.
Police have indicated that the suspect will be formally charged at Makindu Law Courts.
The incident has once again raised concerns over abuse of authority and the conduct of officers entrusted with public safety.
