Police Repulse Al-Shabaab Militants from Attacking Wajir Police Camp

Security officers at Khorof Harar Police Station and the nearby Quick Response Unit (QRU) camp yesterday night repulsed an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.

According to an official police report seen by Daily News Kenya-International, the incident occurred at around 8:00 p.m.

The militants,were approximated to be eight in number and reportedly fired one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) and several rounds of ammunition using AK-47 and PKM rifles about 700 metres from the police camp.

Police command in the area believe that the mission of the attack targeted the security installation.

Security officers who were already on high alert responded swiftly and decisively, engaged the attackers and repulsed them.

Police noted that the militants had split into two teams, possibly in an attempt to run down the camp.

Following the exchange, the attackers fled in an unknown direction, only to briefly reappear approximately an hour later before disappearing again.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, and all officers have been fully accounted for.

Security officials have stated that clearance patrols will be conducted in the area to track the militants and secure the locality.

All personnel at the station and camp remain on maximum alert, as the suspects are believed to still be operating within the surrounding area.
