An early morning police operation in Mombasa County has led to the recovery of a stolen police firearm.

It also led to the arrest of two suspects, and a shooting incident in Jomvu area yesterday.

Officers at Mikindani police station acting on intelligence launched a coordinated operation to recover a firearm that had earlier been stolen from the officer.
The multi-agency team, comprising officers from Mikindani and DCI Jomvu, was led by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), Officer Commanding Station (OCS), and Officer Commanding Crime.

The operation first led officers to the residence of a 49 year old suspect, Pius Oketch Odipo, located in the Bangladesh area.

Upon being ordered to open the door, the suspect allegedly attempted to escape through the back entrance.

Officers responded by firing at him which hit him in the left thigh.

Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly guided officers to a second location in the Narcol area, where a 29 year old suspect, Kellar Wanyonyi, was apprehended.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

The weapon had been concealed in the ceiling.

Police confirmed that the recovered firearm matches one that had been earlier stolen from Police Constable James Kobia of Maganda Police Station on March 14.

Both injured suspects were taken to Mikindani Hospital for treatment and are currently in police custody.

Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend additional suspects believed to be linked to the case.
