Police in Kajiado County have launched investigations into a robbery incident in Kitengela that has implicated their three colleagues in an alleged criminal scheme that a Congolese national lost a diamond necklace and other valuables.
According to a report filed at Kitengela Police Station on Monday, the victim, Ajuma Yasin Mumbere, a Congolese national, was en route from Namanga Border to Nairobi when he was approached by a man identified as Erick.
The suspect reportedly lured him into a fake business deal involving the sale of a diamond necklace.
Mumbere was convinced to travel to Kitengela to meet a purported buyer.
Upon arrival at the main stage, he was directed to a motor vehicle, registration number KBK 771Z, a Suzuki, where he met two occupants, one posing as the buyer.
Moments after handing over the necklace, two men forcefully entered the vehicle and attempted to handcuff him in what appeared to be a staged arrest.
However, members of the public intervened, thwarting the operation and arresting one suspect before escorting both the victim and suspect to Kitengela Police Station.
In a dramatic twist, police investigations revealed that the individuals involved were officers attached to the Nairobi Region.
They were identified as Samuel Njuguna, Lincoln Ashioya, Tom Odero (all from Nairobi command) and Perminus Kamau from DCI Kitengela.
The victim reported losing a diamond necklace valued at USD 1,905 (approximately Sh 250,000), along with cash amounting to USD 3,000, EUR 300, and KSh 500—bringing the total estimated loss to over Sh 600,000.
The suspect vehicle has since been detained at the police yard as an exhibit, and an inquiry file has been opened.
Detectives from DCI Isinya are currently handling the case, with efforts underway to verify the officers’ workstations and service details.
