Religious rivalry sparks night unrest at Jericho High School

By Our Correspondent,Jericho

Tension briefly gripped Jericho Ofafa Boarding High School in Nairobi on Sunday night after students clashed in what authorities described as a religion fuelled confrontation.

According to a police report from Jogoo Police Station, the incident was reported in the wee hours of today.

It was reported by the school principal Anthony Thuo.

He alerted police that students were fighting within the institution.

Officers from Buruburu police station led by the Jogoo Police Station duty officer and backed by standby officers, swiftly responded and managed to contain the situation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the unrest was triggered by rivalry between students from two dominant religions in the country.

To restore calm, school authorities separated the two groups and placed them under separate confinement.

Police confirmed that order was fully restored, and the school remained calm following the intervention.

No injuries or major property damage were reported.

Investigations and follow up measures are expected as education and security officials work with the school administration to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
