A woman was today morning robbed of cash and valuables near Siaya town after withdrawing money from KCB bank.
According to a police report filed at Siaya Police Station, the victim, identified as Lucy Ongek, had withdrawn KSh 70,000 from KCB Bank Siaya before proceeding with her errands within Siaya town.
She later visited an agrovet shop near White House Hotel, where she purchased fertilizer, before heading home in her Toyota Ractis.
However, upon reaching the Sodhof River area, a saloon car that had allegedly been trailing her overtook and blocked her path.
Three unknown men reportedly alighted from the vehicle and forcefully entered her car, where they ransacked it and made away with Sh 100,000 in cash, a Tecno Pro mobile phone valued at Sh 33,000, 10 kilograms of fertilizer, and a handbag containing assorted documents.
Police confirmed that the victim was not physically injured during the incident.
Officers from Siaya Police Station, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Siaya, visited and documented the scene.
Detectives are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspects.
The incident raises fresh concerns over increased cases of suspected “bank-following” robberies targeting individuals shortly after withdrawing cash in the county.
