Security agencies have recovered 122 head of cattle following a coordinated operation against suspected moran raiders in Laikipia North, police have confirmed.

The incident was reported to Dol Dol Police Station today morning hours after residents of Laikorok Village, near Mukogodo Forest, raised an alarm that livestock had been stolen during a night raid on January 30, 2026 at about 8.00pm.

The stolen animals belonged to Chief Somoit Saikong of Momonyoit Location and his neighbour Lasenkan Leitiko, with an initial report indicating 80 cattle had been driven away by an unknown number of armed raiders.

A multi agency team comprising officers from Dol Dol Police Station, GSU, SEEK, and National Police Reservists (NPRs) launched a pursuit alongside local villagers.

The GSU team laid an ambush at Seku, where they intercepted the raiders.

A brief exchange of fire followed, forcing the suspects to flee deeper into Mukogodo Forest.

During the operation, security teams recovered 122 cattle, all of which were handed back to their rightful owners.

Police said eight animals remain unaccounted for but active pursuit is ongoing.

No casualties were reported among the security personnel.

Investigations are ongoing, and police have indicated that a progress report will follow as efforts continue to recover the remaining livestock and bring the perpetrators to justice.
