Siaya County Deputy Director of Sports John Ang’awa has been elected the National Chairman of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) following a hotly contested election held recently in Nairobi.

Ang’awa clinched the seat after garnering 56 votes, defeating his closest challenger Otuoma from Busia County, who secured 41 votes.

The elections were conducted and supervised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

His victory comes on the back of Siaya County’s successful hosting of the KICOSCA Games last year, an event that received widespread acclaim from participating counties.

The games were hosted under the leadership of Governor James Orengo, with strong support from the County Sports Department led by CEC Anjeline Oduor, Chief Officer Judith Oyugi, Director Sanmac Okoth, Deputy Director John Ang’awa, and Kennedy Oreyo.

The week long sporting extravaganza not only strengthened inter county relations, but also significantly boosted Siaya town’s local economy.

Hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, shops, and the transport sector recorded increased business as visitors and participants thronged the county for the games and related activities.

During a colourful ceremony attended by several regional leaders, Governor Orengo was installed as the KICOSCA Patron and officially received the games torch.

The event was graced by governors from various regions, including Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and West Pokot Governor Dr. Simon Kachapin, who also serves as the Council of Governors Sports Council Chairman, among others.

Ang’awa’s election is widely viewed as a major boost for Siaya County’s profile in national sports leadership and is expected to further strengthen KICOSCA’s role in promoting sports, culture, and unity across counties.
