Police in Bumala,Busia County have recovered a stolen bus belonging to Tahmeed Bus Company.
They arrested a suspect following a swift multi-station operation.
According to police reports, the incident began yesterday when a clerk at the Tahmeed Bus booking office in Port Victoria discovered that a company bus had disappeared from the parking area.
The clerk, identified as Phanice Wanjala, reported that at around 9:50 a.m. she briefly left the booking office to visit a nearby facility at Mid-West Guest House.
On returning, she noticed that the keys to the bus, registration number KDR 342W, a cream-coloured Scania belonging to Tahmeed Bus Company, were missing from the counter.
After checking the bus park, she realized the vehicle had also disappeared.
The matter was immediately reported at Port Victoria Police Station at 10:12 a.m.
Police officers from Port Victoria Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Bunyala responded to the scene and established that the vehicle had been driven off along the Port Victoria–Nambengele Road by an unknown suspect.
Using tracking technology and coordinated pursuit, the officers trailed the vehicle towards the Busia–Kisumu highway.
Acting on the intelligence, officers from Bumala Police Station mounted an ambush at Busio–Funyula junction.
The stolen bus was intercepted at the junction and the driver arrested.
The suspect was identified as Darvish Hashim Hakim.
He was taken into custody at Bumala Police Station.
The recovered bus was detained at the station as investigations continue.
Police say further investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the theft.
