A multi-agency intervention successfully resolved a situation involving 36 stranded international passengers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after their onward flight was cancelled due to instability in the Middle East.
According to a report filed at JKIA Police Station yesterday evening,Kenya Airways staff alerted police at around 6:30pm on Tuesday that the affected passengers had arrived aboard Flight KQ 535 from Lagos on Saturday, February 28, 2026, intending to transit to Dubai.
The onward connection was cancelled amid the ongoing situation in the Middle East, leaving the passengers,31 Nigerians and four Ghanaians stranded at the airline’s Pride Lounge.
The prolonged stay reportedly became operationally challenging for the airline.
Efforts by the airline to accommodate the passengers in hotels or return them to Lagos were initially declined, prompting the convening of a multi-agency meeting.
Following deliberations, it was agreed that the passengers would be transferred to a hotel at their own cost, with Kenya Airways providing one meal per day.
The passengers consented to the arrangement and were subsequently moved to the hotel.
Authorities confirmed that the exercise concluded without any incident.
