Stressed Police Officer Dies by Suicide in Ahero

A police officer attached to Ahero Police Station and said to be stressed from domestic issues has died by suicide.

The officer was found dead at his house within the Ahero police lines today morning, prompting an inquest by investigators.

According to a police report, the officer was discovered after a colleague, concerned by his absence and unanswered phone calls, went to check on him at his residence.

The house was locked from the inside and there was no response.

Police were alerted and the scene was secured.

Senior officers from Nyando SubCounty, detectives and crime scene investigators visited the scene and processed it.

No note was recovered from the officer identified as Constable Solomon Anukuri.

The body was later moved to Ahero County Hospital mortuary, where a post mortem examination is pending.

Police said that the officer had previously mentioned being under stress due to domestic issues.

Detectives from DCI Nyando are handling the case, which has been registered as an inquest to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police have urged officers and members of the public facing distress to seek timely support and counselling services.
