About 80 Form Three and Form Four students from Kithyoko Secondary School in Masinga,Machakos County, on Monday staged a peaceful demonstration to protest alleged misconduct by their school principal.
According to a police situation report, the students assembled at the school parade ground before marching under police escort along the Garissa–Mwingi Road and within Kithyoko market.
The demonstration remained calm throughout, with students carrying placards and twigs.
The students later proceeded to the Ministry of Education offices in Kithyoko, where they formally presented their grievances to the area CSO, James Wambua.
Their concerns included allegations of sexual molestation of female students by the school principal, claims of harsh punishment, and demands for the immediate removal of the principal Jephtha Nzangi Musyoki.
The CSO acknowledged receipt of the complaints and assured the students that the matter would be escalated to higher authorities for appropriate action.
Masinga Sub-county Police Commander (SCPC) Mr Abdullahi Mohamed also addressed the students, urging calm and assuring them that investigations and necessary administrative steps would be taken.
He then encouraged the students to return to school.
Upon their return, the students were addressed by the deputy principal, Miriam Njagi, who informed them that the principal had been ordered to leave the school and that she had assumed responsibility for managing the institution.
During the process, about 20 students requested permission to go home, which was granted by the school administration.
The demonstration ended peacefully at around 11:45 a.m., with no incidents reported.
Investigations into the allegations are expected to proceed through the relevant education and law enforcement authorities.
