[9:50 am, 25/01/2026] kweyu: The Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation Workers and Allied Workers (KUSPAWAW) Chemelil Sugar Factory Branch yesterday conducted its branch elections peacefully at the Chemelil Chiro Market Youth Empowerment Centre in Muhoroni,Kisumu County.
The exercise was presided over by the National Government Labour Officer,Edna Isendi, from the Kisumu office, assisted by her clerks.
Voting and tallying proceeded without disruption, reflecting a calm and orderly democratic process among union members.
Security during the elections was tight, with police coverage led by the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Muhoroni, assisted by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Koru and officers drawn from Koru Police Station, Miwani Police Station, and the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Police Unit Miwani.
No incidents were reported throughout the exercise.
At the close of polling, the following officials were elected to lead the Chemelil branch:
Chairman Kenneth Sifuna, Vice Chairman Mr. George Owuor Were,Secretary James Omondi Agumba and treasurer Jeckonia Adongo.
Other union positions were filled unopposed.
The election exercise officially ended at 5:00 p.m., with results announced at 5:30 p.m.
Authorities confirmed that the entire process was concluded without any security concerns or disturbances.

[9:59 am, 25/01/2026] kweyu: Forest Ranger Injured in Accidental Firearm Discharge at Logoman Forest Station

A Kenya Forest Service (KFS) ranger is receiving treatment after sustaining a gunshot injury in an accidental shooting incident at Logoman Forest Station in Njoro, Nakuru County.
According to a report filed at Nessuit Police Station,the incident occurred Friday night at around 8:00 p.m.
The matter was reported by Corporal Isaac Ngugi of the Kenya Forest Service, attached to Logoman Forest Station.
Police said the injured officer, identified as Tito Kipkoech, was conducting routine firearm safety checks before proceeding on duty when his firearm accidentally discharged.
One round of ammunition was released, striking him on the left ankle.
The ranger sustained a gunshot injury and was immediately rushed to Nakuru Specialist Hospital, where he was admitted.
Medical personnel confirmed that he is in stable condition.
Police have launched investigations into the incident
