A suspected cattle thief was yesterday lynched in Matungulu,Machakos county.
The incident occured at Kwa Mutula village in Matungulu,Machakos.
Area residents were woken up to a grim scene after the suspect was beaten to death by a mob.
The incident,was reported at Tala Police Station by Kithimani Sub location Assistant Chief Robert Ngumbi.
According to the report, the deceased was found lying dead at the gate of a homestead belonging to Catherine Mutheu, a 38 resident of the area.
Police identified the deceased as Peter Mwilu Mulwa.
Preliminary investigations revealed that at around 4:30 a.m., the suspect allegedly entered Mutheu’s homestead while armed with a rungu.
Upon noticing the intrusion, she raised an alarm, attracting neighbours who rushed to the scene.
The crowd reportedly confronted the suspect, who allegedly confessed to being involved in livestock theft.
Enraged residents then descended on him, beating him severely.
By the time officers from Nguluni Police Post arrived at the scene,the man had already succumbed to his injuries.
His body was transferred to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police have since launched investigations into the mob justice incident.
They have once again cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging them to report suspected criminals to authorities instead of resorting to violence.
