A Tanzanian gold dealer was shot dead on Thursday evening during a robbery at his residence in Kehancha Chini, Kuria West Sub-County.

The victim, identified as Leonard Lucas Mabina aged 23 was in the house with his sister, Neema Lucas Mabina, when a gang of four men stormed the home at around 7:00pm.

One of the attackers was armed with a rifle.
According to a report recorded at Kehancha Police Station and seen by Daily News Kenya-International at 7:20pm.

The assailants ordered the siblings to surrender their valuables.

A struggle ensued, during which Mabina was shot through the mouth, dying instantly at the scene.

Police believe the attackers made away with an unknown amount of money before fleeing on a motorcycle bearing Tanzanian registration plates, raising suspicions of a crossnborder criminal operation.

Police visited and processed the scene before transferring the body to Kehancha Sub County Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Investigators suspect the killing may be linked to business rivalry, given the deceased’s involvement in the gold trade between Kenya and Tanzania.

The case is currently under investigation by DCI Kuria West, with police intensifying efforts to track down the suspects.
