Teen Lynched and Burnt Over Alleged Chicken Theft in Bungoma South

A 19 year old man was brutally killed by an angry mob at Samoya Trading Centre in Bungoma South over alleged link to chicken theft.

According to police at Bungoma Police Station, the incident was reported today by Musikoma Area Chief Alice Wasike.

The chief alerted officers that members of the public had attacked a young man suspected of stealing a chicken at the busy trading centre.

Police and officers from the Sub County Criminal Investigations Office rushed to the scene, where they established that the suspect, identified as Akai Mukhwana Wasike, was apprehended by members of the public while in possession of a stolen chicken.

Witnesses told police that as residents questioned him, the teenager attempted to flee but was pursued, overpowered, and subjected to a vicious beating.

The situation quickly escalated as the mob reportedly beat the suspect to death before setting his body on fire.

The incident drew condemnation over the growing trend of mob justice in the region.

His body was later transferred to Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post mortem examination.

Investigations have been launched.
