Terror suspects arrested in Mandera town

Two suspected terror operatives have been arrested in Mandera township.

The arrest came as security agencies intensified operations along the Kenya–Somalia border.

According to police at Mandera Police Station,the arrest was made on Wednesday night by a police patrol team within Mandera township.

They apprehended the two individuals identified as Ibrahim Iftin Mohamed, aged approximately 45, and Farhan Sahal Abdi Bare, aged about 19.

Both suspects are reported to be from Burahache in Somalia.

Police indicated that the suspects were arrested without any identification documents, raising suspicion among officers on patrol.

The case was subsequently handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) for further investigations.

Preliminary interrogation and scrutiny reportedly led to the discovery of images of firearms in their possession, heightening concerns over possible links to terror activities.

Investigators are now seeking to establish the suspects’ local contacts and networks within Mandera.

Police have also indicated plans to apply for a 21 day miscellaneous application order to allow a multi-agency team sufficient time to conduct in-depth investigations into potential terror links.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue under the ATPU Mandera unit.
