Three police officers were injured on Wednesday afternoon after being attacked by a knife wielding suspect during an attempted arrest near Makutano Township, Joyland area.
According to a police report, the incident occurred about 500 metres from Makutano Police Station when officers responded to a distress call from a member of the public.
The caller reported that a man armed with knives was causing disturbance and chasing residents within the township.
Upon arrival at the scene, police attempted to arrest the suspect.
However, the attacker, later identified as Hillary Pkemoi, turned violent and assaulted officers indiscriminately.
During the confrontation, three officers sustained injuries.
Police Constable Jacob Mbatha was rushed to Shalom Hospital, Makutano, before being referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret, where he remains in critical condition.
Constable John Echarait was taken to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
On his part Constable Benard Kipchirchir was treated at Toror Hospital and later discharged in stable condition.
The suspect was arrested and placed in police custody as investigations continue.
