Two police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Imenti Central have been arrested following a complaint lodged by a businessman in Kariene Market, Meru County, over alleged harassment and robbery.
According to a report recorded at Kariene Police Station, the complaint was filed on Friday morning by Jeremiah Mutea, also known as Jeff, a businessman operating at Kariene Market.
The complainant stated that on January 29, 2026, at around 2:30 p.m., while he was inside his shop, two police officers approached him and accused him of selling export cigarettes and having a fake motorcycle number plate.
He alleged that during the confrontation, one of the officers forcefully removed Sh 500 from his pocket before the two officers left the scene.
The officers a Corporal and a Constable are both attached to the DCI Imenti Central Office.
Police confirmed that the two officers have since been arrested and placed in custody at Kariene Police Station.
They are facing allegations of robbery contrary to Section 295 of the Penal Code and are being held pending an identification parade and further investigations.
