Two people,a woman and her young son have lost their lives following a fire incident that gutted a single room mabati residential house in the Jerusalem area of Waithaka, Dagoretti this morning.
According to police reports from Waithaka Police Station, the incident was reported at about 7:50 a.m. by a resident identified as Hellen Misino, who alerted authorities that a house was on fire within the area.
Police officers led by the Station Commander, Waithaka, alongside officers from the Dagoretti Divisional Crime Unit, Scenes of Crime personnel, and the Waithaka Fire Brigade, responded swiftly to the scene.
By the time officers arrived, members of the public had managed to extinguish the fire.
Upon assessment, two bodies were discovered near the exit of the structure.
The deceased were identified as Martha Njuhi Wanjiru, aged 30, and her eight year old son, George Kabiru Njuhi.
Their bodies were later transferred to the Nairobi Funeral Home mortuary, where post mortem examinations are expected to be conducted.
Property of unknown value was destroyed in the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
