Unlicensed Madrasa uncovered in Nyeri

By Our Reporter,Nyeri.

Police in Nyeri County have launched investigations after an unlicensed madrasa school was discovered operating in secrecy within Kieni East.

According to a report filed at Gakawa Police Station yesterday, the operation was uncovered at Kamangura Village in Gathiuru Sub-location following a tip-off from local administration.

The area assistant Chief, Dominic Mbugua, raised concerns over suspicious activities in a rented compound, prompting a joint response by Police officers alongside local administrators led by Chief John Githimei.

Upon inspection, officers established that the premises owned by a local landlord identified as Godana had been rented by an organization operating under the name Holistic Education Trust, described as a Muslim charity.

However, the individual in charge, Ali Ibrahim, failed to produce any registration or operational documents to authorize the institution.

Police found a total of 23 boys aged between 15 and 18 years residing at the facility.

Preliminary findings indicate that the students were exclusively undergoing madrasa teachings, with no evidence of formal education aligned with the country’s national curriculum.
The house was reportedly being used both as a classroom and a boarding facility.

Police have launched the probe to establish the legality of the institution and the welfare of the minors and boys involved.
