A cross section of Public Benefits Organisation (PBO’s) affiliates are pushing for an expanded mandate of the PBO Act 2013 ahead of the world NGO day to be celebrated next month at the Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega.
Speaking during an online Zoom meeting attended by 62 affliate members on Monday, the National Federation of PBOs in Kenya chairman Stephen Cheboi said the entire fraternity of PBOs, CSO’s and CBOs had hit the ground running preparing for the day while appealing to a multi-sectoral response for financial and material support.
Cheboi said both international partners, quasi government agencies, and multilateral lenders had been approached and urged to pool hands with the Federation to ensure success of the day.
Cheboi said the various PBOs engaged in the environment, climate change and agriculture were committed to a solidified initiative that will not only ensure success of the day but go a long way in empowering communities to fight poverty, ignorance and disease as part of the 17 UN sustained development goals (SDGs) 2030.
Cheboi appealed to local and international partners to showcase their services and products through an outdoor exhibition expected to draw attendance of more than 50,000 capacity crowd.
“We are confident that the day will be a roaring success and we are urging our development partners to boost our efforts through participating in outdoor exhibition,” Cheboi told the meeting attended by heads of different PBOs ranging from agriculture, child rights, climate change and capacity building.
