Worshippers’ Tip Leads to Arrest of Suspected Extremist at Tana Delta Mosque

Security agencies have arrested a suspected extremist after worshippers reported of a suspicious individual at Minjila Main Mosque in Tana Delta.

According to police records at Garsen Police Station on Thursday evening,officers moved swiftly following the tip off from local congregants.

A joint team drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) responded to the scene.

The suspect, identified as Luqman Ibrahim Hashim, a 22 year-old Tanzanian national, was arrested at the mosque.

Police say that during preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to extremist links and indicated he was headed to Somalia.

He was immediately detained and booked at Garsen Police Station.

The case has been classified as a Person Under Investigation (PUI), with the ATPU Hola Detachment taking over further investigations.

Security officials praised the public for proactive intelligence sharing and urged residents to remain vigilant as inquiries continue.
