Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has hailed Kenya’s cultural diversity as a key pillar of national unity and an important driver of tourism growth following the successful Laikipia Minority Groups Cultural Event held today in Laikipia County.

Speaking during the celebration, Miano praised the Ogiek, Yaaku, Mukogodo, and other minority communities for preserving and showcasing their unique cultural traditions through music, dance, storytelling, and traditional performances that captivated attendees.

The Cabinet Secretary described the event as a powerful reminder that Kenya’s diversity remains one of the country’s greatest strengths.

She noted that the traditions, languages, and customs of minority communities are not only central to the identity and heritage of local societies, but also contribute significantly to the growth of cultural tourism in the country.

Miano emphasized that preserving cultural heritage creates opportunities for economic empowerment by attracting both local and international visitors interested in authentic Kenyan experiences.

She said cultural tourism has the potential to generate employment opportunities for young people, support local artisans, and stimulate community-based enterprises across the country.

She further reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote cultural preservation while positioning Kenya as a leading global tourism destination under the Magical Kenya campaign.

The event brought together elders, youth leaders, cultural custodians, government officials, and residents from different communities within Laikipia County.

Participants showcased traditional attire, indigenous cuisines, songs, and dances in an atmosphere marked by unity and celebration.

Miano expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event, especially elders and youth who continue to safeguard indigenous knowledge and cultural practices for future generations.

She called on Kenyans to continue embracing and celebrating the country’s rich multicultural identity, saying diversity should remain a source of pride and cohesion among communities.

The Laikipia Minority Groups Cultural Event highlighted the growing importance of cultural festivals in promoting domestic tourism while strengthening national unity and appreciation of Kenya’s rich heritage.
