Tea Dispute Turns Deadly as Ugandan Trader Stabbed to Death

A Ugandan trader has been fatally stabbed following a dispute over payment for a cup of tea at Gatukuyu Shopping Centre in Gatundu North, Kiambu County.

According to a police report recorded at Gatukuyu Police Station today, the incident was reported by Makawa James, a Ugandan national and resident of Gatukuyu, who informed police that his brother, Emmanuel Bwayo aged 26, had been attacked while operating his kiosk.

Police established that the deceased was running a kiosk selling snacks, tea and coffee when a heated argument erupted after a customer identified as Kathuri allegedly refused to pay for tea he had ordered.

Efforts by the trader to have the suspect leave the premises reportedly failed, leading to a confrontation.

During the altercation, the suspect drew a knife and stabbed Bwayo on the left side of the neck.

The victim was rushed to Igegania Level 4 Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers from Gatukuyu Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Gatundu North visited and processed the scene before examining the body.

A manhunt for the suspect has since been launched.

The body was moved to General Kago Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy as investigations continue.
