A man aged 25 has been arrested after he assaulted and killed his 68 year old grandmother following a domestic dispute in Nyankongo Village, Kuria East, Migori County.
Police said the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday when the suspect, identified as Thomas Mataitari Magoro, reportedly quarrelled with his grandmother, Magasi Mwita Giriago.
During the confrontation, he struck her on the head with a traditional wooden stool before stabbing her in the mouth with a knife, leaving her with severe injuries.
The elderly woman was rushed to Ntimaru Sub-County Hospital for treatment and later referred to Migori County Referral Hospital.
However, she succumbed to her injuries while being transferred.
Police officers visited the scene in Nyankongo Village where they confirmed the incident and launched investigations.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and remains in police custody as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kuria East continue with investigations.
The body of the deceased was moved to Wima Mortuary in Kegonga, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
