President William Ruto has hailed teachers as heroes and patriots who play a key role in shaping Kenya’s future by educating and moulding the country’s next generation.

Speaking during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebrations at Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi, Ruto said the Government has increased investment in education to Sh784.5 billion, the largest allocation in the national budget.

He said the Government had also doubled the teachers’ promotion budget from Sh1 billion to Sh2 billion, with the number of promotions set to rise from the 34,016 already advertised to 50,000 in what he described as the largest promotion exercise in a single year.

The President said the increased investment would also support teachers’ welfare, professional growth and improved working conditions.

“We celebrate our teachers as the heroes and patriots of our nation. They do more than teach our children. They shape the people who build Kenya,” Ruto said.

He joined thousands of teachers at Kasarani Gymnasium to mark World Teachers’ Day 2026.
