Former Kiambu Governor Waititu loses bid to quash 12 year jail term in Sh588m tender scandal

By Johnson Njenga,Milimani Court.

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has suffered a major legal setback after the High Court dismissed his bid to have his 12 year imprisonment sentence over an irregular Sh588 million county tender quashed.

In a further blow to Waititu, Justice Rose Ougo cancelled the bonds granted to his wife, Susan Wangare, and other individuals linked to the controversial tender, ordering them remanded in custody pending sentencing by the trial court.

Those affected include Charles Chege, the director of Testimony Enterprises Limited, the company that won the tender, and Kiambu County Chief Roads Officer Luka Wahinya.

The case centres on a Sh588 million tender that was awarded during Waititu’s tenure as Kiambu governor and which resulted in his conviction and imprisonment.

The latest ruling marks another significant development in the high profile corruption case, which has attracted considerable public attention over allegations of misuse of public funds in county government procurement.
