Security agencies in Kwale County have arrested 36 suspected members of an organised criminal gang popularly known as the “Panga Boys” following an intensive multi-agency security operation in Diani and Ukunda township.
According to a follow-up report from Diani Police Station, the coordinated operation was conducted on the night of January 30 into the early hours of January 31.
The patrols covered Diani, Ukunda township, and surrounding areas, targeting criminal elements linked to violent attacks and insecurity in the region.
During the operation, officers apprehended 36 suspects identified as: James Kiseli Kitonyo, Mohamed Athuman Chichwa, Said Suleiman Uchi, Suleiman Ali Makomfoti, Alhaji Hassan Mwamusema, Hamisi Chira Salim, Kuni Makaju Rama, Badi Hamisi Makazi, Juma Athuman Mbangu, Yahya Omar Mwamuzuri, Timothy Ndambuki, Musa Jamal, Ezekiel Musyoki, Rai Kaku, Vurya Mjita, Timothy Kyeno, Mohamed Juma Mwamazuru, Chizungwe Tsuma, Brian Nyaribo, Erick Gitonga, Galton Fichara, Mohanta Mzungu, Ngome Mangale, Dalton Kaula, Joseph Musau, Ismael Mazuri, Babli Nyamawi, Vincent Ateya, Jackson Mutuku, Sadam Katiba, Dancan Mbithi, Marion Matu, Suleiman Guni Mwatela, Benta Atieno, Lanyoro Kurambe, and Elias Siku.
Police said all the suspects were placed in custody and were found to be physically fit.
They are expected to face various charges pending profiling and further investigations by the multi-agency security team.
Authorities confirmed that the security operation is ongoing as part of sustained efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks and restore safety for residents and visitors in the South Coast region.
