Lioness Rescued Alive from Pit Latrine Near Mackinnon Police Station

Swift action by security officers and wildlife experts averted a potential tragedy on Wednesday after a lioness was rescued alive from a pit latrine in Mackinnon area, Samburu Sub-County,Kwale county.

According to police reports from Mackinnon Police Station,members of the public alerted authorities after spotting the lioness trapped in a pit latrine behind Syed Baghali Shah Mosque, and near the police station.

A multi agency response team comprising the Samburu Sub-County Police Commander, D/SCCIO Taru, the Officer Commanding GSU Mackinnon, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Mackinnon, and officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) promptly visited the scene.

KWS veterinary officers from Voi successfully sedated the lioness before safely extracting it from the pit latrine.

The animal was later transported to Voi for further assessment and care.

Authorities confirmed that the rescue operation was conducted smoothly, with no injuries, property damage, or security incidents reported.

The incident once again highlights the growing interaction between wildlife and human settlements, underscoring the need for vigilance and prompt reporting by the public.
