Police are investigating an arson and robbery incident at a workers’ settlement in Maliki Camp, within Suam Orchards ADC Farm in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County.
The incident was reported by Dennis Gachina, manager of the farm, who told police that a group of men believed to be from nearby Muruma Village attacked workers on Monday.
According to the police report, about 15 men passed through the settlement at around 4:30pm before entering a shop operated by David Wafula, 28.
The group reportedly stole four packets of doughnuts valued at Sh400 after Wafula resisted their demands.
The assailants assaulted Wafula on his left shoulder before stealing assorted shop goods and Sh10,000 in cash.
They then attacked Wafula’s neighbour, Chebet Shandra, 30, with stones and rungus, injuring her on the chest and upper back.
Both victims were treated at Chepchoina Health Centre and discharged in stable condition.
Later, the attackers reportedly returned in a larger group of about 30 people and set fire to a grass-thatched house belonging to Isaac Juma Michael, 30, a farm security guard.
Household property estimated at Sh50,000 was destroyed in the blaze.
Police processed and photographed the scene as the suspects fled towards Muruma Village.
Efforts to arrest those involved are ongoing, with investigations being handled by Chepchoina Police Station.
