Burglars Raid Maseno Hostel, Break Into Five Student Rooms

Unknown burglars armed with pangas and crude weapons broke into Salama Hostel in Maseno, Kisumu County in the early hours of Thursday, stealing property from five student rooms while the occupants were away on the university’s long holiday.

According to a report made at Maseno Police Station, the incident occurred at around 2.00 a.m. The matter was reported by hostel caretaker Thomas Omolo in the morning.

Police said the attackers first cut the padlock securing the hostel’s main gate before breaking the padlocks on five rooms.

The suspects then looted an unknown quantity of property from the rooms.

The affected rooms belong to students of Maseno University, who are currently away for the long vacation, making it difficult to immediately establish the value and nature of the stolen items.

Officers from Maseno Police Station visited the scene and commenced investigations.

No arrests had been made by the time of filing the report, with police pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspects.
