A multi-agency security team has seized bhang with an estimated street value of Sh23.4 million during a late night raid in Busia Township and arrest of three suspects.
According to police, the operation was conducted at around 9:45pm on Friday following a tip-off.
Officers drawn from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), under the command of Busia Police Station OCS Chief Inspector George Otieno, raided a house in Mabale area.
During the search, officers recovered 15 bags containing green dry plant material suspected to be cannabis weighing a total of 780.95 kilogrammes. Police estimated the consignment’s street value at Sh23,428,500.
Three suspects were arrested during the operation.
They were identified as Patrick Wandera Khasali, 25, Simon Ogola Khasali, 22, and Dorine Glara Adongo, 22.
The suspects are being held in police custody as investigations continue.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Anti-Narcotics Unit in Busia has taken over the case and is expected to arraign the suspects in court once investigations are completed.
Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the distribution of narcotic drugs in Busia County and its neighbouring border areas.
