A personal bodyguard to Garsen MP Ali Wario Guyo fired into the air after he was attacked by a group of youths who robbed him of Sh300,000 in Garsen, Tana River County.
According to a police report,Corporal Abubakar Ijema was at Garsen Methodist Church at around 4pm on Friday when the incident occurred.
Ijema told police that the MP had given him the money for transport mobilisation.
He was carrying the cash in a bag when he was confronted by the youths, who allegedly snatched it and fled.
In an attempt to scare them away, the officer fired four rounds of ammunition into the air from his Jericho pistol.
The officer sustained minor injuries during the incident and later complained of chest pains.
No members of the public was reported injured.
The matter is being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Garsen.
