Police in Bondo, Siaya County, have arrested a church Deacon accused of burning four children with a hot concoction during an alleged exorcism ritual.

The suspect, identified as Clinton Owuor Ogudo, was arrested after a five-year-old PP1 pupil,IOB reported to Our Lady Queen of Peace ECD in Bondo with burn injuries on his neck on Thursday morning.

According to a police report, the teacher, Bibiana Mabona, contacted the child’s mother who disclosed that her son and three other children had allegedly been burnt by the deacon, who claimed he was exorcising demons from them.

The mother led the sub-county security team to Israel Assemblies of God St Abraham Church in Barkowino Sub-location, Maranda Division.

Church mother Gaudencia Juma, 85, and her son, Pastor Steven Omondi, 35, reportedly confirmed that the children had been burnt using a hot concoction by the deacon, who was initially absent when the security team visited the church.

The injured child was taken to Bondo Sub-County Hospital, where he received treatment and was discharged in stable condition.

The suspect was later arrested and placed in police custody pending investigations and appropriate legal action.
