NAESI urges Kenyans to remain calm after first Ebola case

By Our Correspondent,Nairobi.

The National Elections Support Initiative (NAESI) has urged Kenyans to remain calm and vigilant following confirmation of the country’s first imported case of Ebola Bundibugyo virus.

In a statement, NAESI and PBO national coordinator Stephen Kipchumba Cheboi conveyed condolences to the family of the Kenyan national who reportedly arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo via Kampala and later died at Nairobi Hospital.

NAESI urged Kenyans to follow Ministry of Health guidelines, maintain hygiene, avoid contact with bodily fluids and report suspected cases.

Passengers and other people who may have been in contact with the deceased have been urged by the ministry of Health through cabinets Secretary Aden Dualle to cooperate with health authorities and contact-tracing teams.

NAESI commended healthcare workers and called for adequate protective equipment and support.

It said its PBO partners across all 47 counties would support Ebola awareness and community sensitisation in collaboration with county health departments.

“Peace without health is not possible,” Cheboi said, pledging NAESI’s support for government efforts to contain the outbreak.
