A woman suspected of being part of a phone snatching syndicate was arrested in Embakasi after police officers, assisted by members of the public, pursued three women suspects who had stolen mobile phones from two victims.
Police said the incident was reported at Embakasi Police Station on Wednesday evening by Clere Nekesa and Sahara Kambua residents of Tel Aviv Estate.
According to the report, the three women posed as customers before snatching the victims’ mobile phones and fleeing the scene.
Officers who were on patrol immediately responded and, with the help of members of the public, managed to arrest one of the suspects identified as Tabitha Njeri Mwangi.
During the arrest, police recovered two stolen mobile phones—an iPhone 14 (navy blue) and a Camon 40 Pro—which were kept as exhibits.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue while efforts are underway to trace and arrest her accomplices who escaped.
